I still needed to - defeat Ansem on my own. It'd been my decision to let him into my heart in the first place... I needed to be the one to defeat him. It was my fight to finish.

... Gotta back up a bit to explain that.

When I first turned up in the castle, it was right after Sora and Mickey'd sealed the door to the dark realm together - after Sora'd defeated Ansem the first time, and I'd gotten my body back.

Once I was free of Ansem, I figured - that was it, I was done with darkness. It hadn't brought me anything good, and I'd nearly lost everything.

Just... it wasn't that easy to get rid of. I'd thrown everything away to chase shadows... the darkness, and Ansem inside it, filled up my heart. And the Organization, they were trying to manipulate me too.

Mickey... mentioned the Replica they made of me, right?

It's true... I have never heard of anybody come back after their hearts is so full of darkness. It usually overtakes and consumes them.

*she nods* He mentioned the Replica. It was an artificial being made to look like you, right?

Yeah... like looking in a mirror, in a lot of uncomfortable ways.

He used the darkness a lot more freely than me, even as- even as my own powers kept growing. They did use him to mess with Sora, but... they sent him after me, first.

They fought me themselves, too. Trying to get control of me... then just to take me out. All the while, inside my heart, what was left of Ansem... was getting stronger and stronger.

I hated it. I hated the darkness - I was terrified of it, what I'd done with it, no matter how much I said I wasn't. But it was all around me, inside me, I couldn't... I couldn't get away from the smell.

It was Zexion who gave me the card for it. A member of Organization XIII who specialized in illusions. Except, I didn't know that at the time.

In all the chaos, I... saw Sora. I called to him, and he... he attacked me. At first I thought he just didn't recognize me somehow, but... he knew. He said- he could see exactly what I'd become.
